the hollow star saga is so funny cause the most random stuff is mentioned and then it's never bought up again and its like why would you say that??? until it eventually becomes relevant and gives you so much whiplash.

i remember in the first book there was that random paragraph about dragons and i spent the rest of the book trying to figure out who the dragon was before eventually settling on Theo. then acafl comes out, there's no mention of it and i forget that thing entirely. then agasv comes out and oh would you look at that THERE'S A DRAGON. who's related to Theo.

and istg it's ALWAYS Theo. that fucking line in the second book which called Theo the 'shadow prince' cause he was always in the Lysterne family's shadow gave me whiplash. and then it was just never mentioned again. and THEN we reached agasv and oh would you look at that Theo wants to be king of seelie summer.

Nausicaa said one (1) (uno) line about Arlo being made of the shit immortals are made of and i was like o??? kay??? and then in like the last 20 pages of agasv they revealed that Arlo was LITERALLY NICHOLAS FLAMEL REINCARNATED???

i have so many trust issues with this book series. it's why my theories are always based off like one off-hand line.

Does anyone else read a book with romance in and your heart just clenches bc you realise no one will ever love you as deeply and tenderly and fully as those characters in your book love each other…?

I would like to formally rescind everything i said about Nausicaä's trauma not being developed after reading the second book. i was wrong and im sorry.

how arelian is protecting him with his life and withdrawing to keep him safe

how vayan is slowly questioning everything not know his mom is plotting and his ex best friend is fated to die

they're so much more developed than nosicaa and arlo. like, they're childhhod best friends and we know they both like each other, and why they can't be together, and they both feel like real characters, but arlo is every main character from a ya fantasy ever (red hair, royal but isn't treated like it, has a bunch of insecurites about how her power isn't good enough, power is actually off the charts but she still doesn't believe it, litteraly chosen by a god, no one at school likes her, divorced parents, very obvious secret about one of her parents, lots of very obvious secrets that she doesnt pick up on). nossicaa is a little bit more developed, but all we see is like, she has trauma and heres why, not ever actually talking about how that trauma affects her. like once she gets sad and its because of her trauma, but we never really see inside her brain, she just makes jokes about how depressed she is

like one time she snaps at vayan, but

its never explored beyond "i am sad because my sister died. i was punished bc i did smth when i was angry/greaving bc my sister killed herself, so now i am the textbook sassy dangerous gay badass". we just get mentions that shes depressed, and never actually what it means

and also no information on why shes willing to defend arlo so hard?? like it just happens. she just suddenly starts being really defensive of arlo and acting like shes her world, when they barely know each other.
